In general, windsurfing sails can be categorized into different types, each designed for specific disciplines.

The main types of windsurfing sails include freeride, freestyle, wave and race sails.

Freeride sails offer early planing and easy handling, while wave sails are designed for maximum maneuverability and stability in the surf. Race sails are built for top speed and efficiency in strong winds. NeilPryde product range covers all these sail types.

It depends on your skill level, sailing style and local wind conditions. NeilPryde offers versatile all-round sails, race-oriented models and freestyle/wave sails. Choose based on whether you prioritize speed, maneuverability or ease of use.

Each NeilPryde sail is designed for a specific mast curve and stiffness (e.g., Constant Curve, Flex Top, or Slalom). Using the wrong mast can ruin the sail's shape, performance and handling. Always check the sail's luff sleeve or spec label for the recommended mast length, IMCS (stiffness) number and curve type. For best results, use a NeilPryde mast that matches your sail model.

Match sail size to your weight, wind speed and board volume. Lighter sailors and stronger winds = smaller sails (e.g., 4.0–5.5 m²). Heavier sailors and lighter winds = larger sails (e.g., 6.0–9.0 m²). As a rule: more wind = smaller sail.

The required boom length is printed on the sail's tack. It usually ranges from around 140 cm (small wave sails) to over 220 cm (large race sails). Adjustable booms are recommended so you can use one boom for multiple sail sizes. Never overtighten the boom clamp – it can damage the mast or boom.

Windsurfing uses a rig attached to a board (with or without a foil). Wing foiling uses a handheld inflatable wing and a foil board — no mast, no boom and you’re more free to pump and ride waves.

We offer excellent build quality, innovative design (like Super Scrim and X-Ply materials), reliable wind range, good handling and a wide variety for all disciplines — from racing to freeride to foiling.

Check your skill level, intended use (freeride, race, wave, foil), mast type compatibility, boom length and your local wind conditions. Also inspect the sail’s condition (if used) — look for creases, stretched panels and worn batten pockets.

When you are just starting to foil, we recommend to use either the Glide Wind or Flight FR, both foils offer a lot of stability and an early take-off to let you experience the feeling of flying over the water. Please check the product sections to learn more about the product and for which type of watersport it is ideal.

We do not recommend to do so. This is due to the fact that the foils are putting a lot of force onto the powerbox, which can lead to damages. However, at this stage we also do not offer a reinforced Powerbox available as spare part.
We only have the deep tuttle reinforced box available.

Generally all foil parts of the Glide series are interchangeable with each other. Also, models of the Flight AL or Flight FR from different years are interchangeable. If you have more questions, please visit your local dealer.

Wings are inflatable hand-held sails that are used independently of the board and foil. They are held directly in your hands and generate propulsion from the wind. When combined with a foil, they enable controlled gliding above the water, even in light wind conditions. Modern wings like those from NeilPryde are characterized by low weight, high stability and optimal power delivery.

Choose your NeilPryde wing based on your riding style, wind conditions and how much performance you want.

Fly IV - the performance freeride wing offering a more direct and efficient feel with a compact design. It delivers strong upwind/downwind capabilities and refined control, making it the best choice for riders who want a sharper, faster freeride experience without going full "race mode".

FireFly - the easiest everyday freeride wing. It delivers balanced, smooth power with forgiving handling, making it a great choice for progression, mixed conditions, and riders who value comfort and predictability. Ideal if you want one wing that works across a wide range of conditions.

FireFly Pro - the lighter and more responsive freeride, wave and freestyle wing. It offers a more agile and "pro-tuned" feel with improved stiffness and control in gusts, perfect for riders who want to push their carving, jumps and tricks. A strong choice for progressing beyond an allround wing.

FireFly Pro SL - the light-wind specialist. Featuring an ultra-lightweight build and larger sizes, it prioritises pump-to-glide efficiency to help you get flying in the gentlest breeze with less fatigue.
In simple terms, choose the Fly IV for performance freeride, Fly IV Pro for premium efficiency, FireFly for everyday ease, FireFly Pro for performance and responsive handling and FireFly Pro SL for light wind sessions.

The NeilPryde Firefly is the best choice for beginners because its shorter wingspan significantly reduces the risk of dipping a wingtip into the water, which is the most common cause of falls when learning. Its unique "Mono Handle" allows you to intuitively control the wing with just one hand. The wing delivers early, smooth and predictable power to help you get on the foil easily — never jerky or overwhelming — making it perfect for relaxed and confident first sessions.

The best place to start is your weight and the typical wind speed at your local spot. But also foil size, board volume and riding level. Smaller wings are better for stronger wind and lighter riders, while larger wings are better for lighter wind, heavier riders and early progression.

Strong wind - around 2.5-3.5 m
Average wind - around 4.0-5.0 m
Light wind - around 5.5-7.0 m

Keep in mind that due to the High Lift Concept used in the FireFly design, you might find you can use a slightly smaller wing than you would expect compared to other brands.

Kiteboarding uses a large kite on long lines that pulls you across the water, delivering powerful speed and big jumps — but it requires more gear, open beaches, and a steeper learning curve. Wing foiling uses a handheld wing with no lines, offering a simpler setup, more location flexibility, and a smoother, more flowy ride — though you'll need to build arm strength and master balancing on the foil.

Rinse your gear with fresh water after every session to remove salt and sand, which can cause abrasion over time. Dry it out of direct sunlight, as UV exposure can age materials quickly. Store in a cool, dry place away from extreme heat and never leave the wing inflated in the sun when not in use. A bag provides extra protection during transport and storage.

Pro versions (like the Firefly Pro or Fly Pro) use premium materials such as Aluula Aeris, making them noticeably lighter and stiffer than standard models. This results in faster acceleration, more direct control and better responsiveness — ideal for intermediate to advanced riders pushing their performance. Standard versions are slightly more forgiving and durable, making them better suited for progression and freeride.

The difference between a wing boom and wing handles comes down mainly to feel, control and flexibility:

• Wing booms provide a continuous grip position, which is especially beneficial for frequent hand changes, freestyle maneuvers and maximum control.
• Wing handles are fixed grip points, usually in two or three positions, offering reduced weight and a more direct, stable feel.
  

Which option is better for you depends on your riding style, experience level, and personal preference.

Yes — a pump adapter is essential for inflating your wing. All NeilPryde wings come with a pump adapter included. If you loose it, standard kite/SUP pump adapters typically fit as well.

NeilPryde wings include a bladder repair set with every purchase. For minor punctures, you can use the included repair kit. For larger damage, it's best to have the repair done by a professional — some retailers offer repair services. Always inspect your equipment for signs of wear before each session.

A foil (short for hydrofoil) is an underwater wing that generates lift, allowing a board or boat to rise above the water's surface.

The principle is similar to an airplane wing. As the foil moves through the water, its shape causes water to flow faster over the top than the bottom. This creates a pressure difference that generates an upward force (lift). Once this lift exceeds the weight of the rider and board, the board lifts out of the water and "flies" above the surface.

This reduces drag and allows for smoother, faster and more efficient gliding across the water.

The design parameters of a foil include wing area, profile, aspect ratio, fuselage length and mast length. These characteristics influence the foil's lift, stability, maneuverability and speed.

• More surface area – more lift; less surface area – less lift
• Higher aspect ratio – better gliding characteristics; lower aspect ratio – more maneuverable handling
• Longer fuselage – greater directional stability and overall stability; shorter fuselage – more maneuverable handling and agility
  

Low-aspect foils have a shorter wingspan and a more rounded shape, allowing for maneuverability and lift at lower speeds. Mid-aspect foils offer a balanced mix of lift, speed and maneuverability, making them versatile options for a variety of conditions.

High-aspect foils feature a wider wingspan and superior glide characteristics; compared to low-aspect foils, they remain airborne even at lower speeds. This makes them ideal for maximizing efficiency and performance, particularly in light winds, small waves and for pump foiling.

Beginners should choose a medium to long fuselage (66 cm or 74 cm) for sufficient stability. A shorter mast (75 cm) makes it easier to control the flight and the board.

Advanced wingfoilers can vary the fuselage length depending on their riding style. Shorter fuselages offer greater maneuverability and more pop for jumps, while longer fuselages provide better tracking at high speeds and increased pitch stability.

Mast length can vary between 75 cm, 82 cm and 90 cm, depending on the location and conditions. A short mast is suitable for spots with shallow water or sandbars. An 82 cm mast works well for freeriding, freestyle and wave riding. A 90 cm mast is ideal for spots with larger swell and for wingfoilers chasing top speeds.

Aluminum masts offer solid performance with proven quality and durability, making them the top choice — especially for beginners — when looking for a cost-effective setup. In contrast, carbon masts offer weight savings of up to 20%. Carbon masts also offer advantages regarding profile width and depth.

An important distinction is that the mast material determines the fuselage you must use for the NeilPryde Glide and Swift systems: Aluminum masts must be used with aluminum fuselages, and carbon masts must be used with carbon fuselages. The front and rear wings, however, are cross-compatible with all fuselages.

• Rinse with fresh water after every session to remove salt and sand.
• Dry thoroughly and store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight.
• Inspect screws and parts before each use – tighten if needed, but do not overtighten.
• Use anti-corrosion compound (e.g., Tef-Gel) on screws to prevent seizing.
• Disconnect the foil from the board after use to avoid galvanic corrosion.
• Use a foil bag for safe, scratch-free storage and UV protection.
  

We do not recommend to rig NeilPryde sails with masts from other brands. Every NeilPryde sail will perform to its highest potential when used with the specified NeilPryde mast, because our sails are designed around our mast curves. Using a mast from another brand can influence the performance of the sail in a negative way. Therefore NeilPryde does not warranty its sails if they are rigged with other than a NeilPryde Mast. The NeilPryde RDM masts are comparable in its curve with NeilPryde SDM masts. Choose an RDM mast for a softer, more forgiving feel and durability. Choose an SDM mast for faster response, stability and more direct feel. We recommend the use of SDM masts on cambered sails.

All masts feature our unique Progressive Flex, compatible with all previous sail models.

Higher performance level masts will have higher carbon content reducing the weight of the mast, as well as significantly increasing the reactivity between mast and sail and its overall performance.

We at NeilPryde aim to sell only the best and longest lasting products. If your mast breaks in one part, due to e.g. mishandling, you might wonder if you can simply replace only the broken section of the mast. We do not recommend this, as it is very likely that the upper part of the new mast may not fit to the original bottom part and vice versa, therefore we suggest to check specific cases with your local repair shop, which you can find via our store locator.
