Multiple World Champion and World Speed Record holder, Antoine Albeau, once again bettered his own mark with an incredible run of 53.27 knots, set at the Luderitz Speed Challenge in Namibia aboard his RS:Racing EVO8.
The day started off not promising with sub 40 knots winds. However, by mid-day, it really picked up and allowed Albeau to put in multiple runs at over 50 knots during the early afternoon. He eventually broke his record a number of times, with the highest figure being 53.27 — the new World Speed Record.
As the wind increased the sailing conditions were extremely tough, with gusts of over 50 knots and sand flying across the course. A few times Albeau notes that he could not actually see the course in front of him — a crash waiting to happen.
Antoine's day: 32 runs total > 13 runs over 52 knots > 4 runs over 53 knots.
The new RS:Racing EVO8 is now officially the fastest sail on the planet.
Congratulations to Tonio on another remarkable achievement
